The Corunna Educational Foundation awarded $4,994 in teacher mini-grants for members of the Corunna Public Schools’ teaching staff at their regular January meeting. The following teachers were awarded mini-grants up to $300 each: Candice Rivette, Amanda Haycock, Amanda Danek, Tonya Trimble, Sheryl Bauman, Kim Kiesling, Tami Basso, April Bentler, Kyle Robinson, and Sherri Svrcek. Additionally, more than $2,000 was dedicated to K-3 teachers for student whiteboards and a classroom set of LCD writing tablets.

Shown here are students from Mrs. Kim Kiesling’s class, along with (back row, from left): Kim Kiesling, Technology teacher Tami Basso, Foundation Trustee Sharon Ganssley, and Superintendent John Fattal.

Supporting teachers is only one area where our Education Foundation supports Corunna Public Schools. Founded in 1984 with a mission to preserve and enhance educational opportunities for students and staff of the Corunna Public Schools, the Foundation provides financial support in the form of scholarships and funding of mini-grants for classroom projects.  In addition, the Foundation gives funding to provide for the unique and supplemental education of individual students.  The Foundation has assisted the school district in providing a state-of-the-art technology program (they were key in upgrading our wifi a few years ago).

The Foundation’s main fundraiser is its annual dinner raffle, scheduled for 6 p.m. April 29, 2020, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Owosso. Tickets are $60 each; it comes with two dinner tickets (extra dinner tickets are available for $10 each) and a chance to win lots of money. The grand prize is $1,500. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket (or investing in a portion of one), please call (989) 743-6338.
