A once-in-a-generation athlete, Hannah Hollister, Class of 2020, exemplified excellence across four sports during her remarkable high school career. Earning an extraordinary 13 varsity letters, Hollister’s legacy is one of versatility, leadership, and championship success.
In volleyball, Hollister was a defensive standout, earning All-Conference honors twice and surpassing the milestone of 1,000 career digs. She helped lead the Cavaliers to two District Championships, two Regional Championships, and a memorable Final Four appearance, anchoring one of the most successful volleyball eras in school history.
On the basketball court, Hollister brought intensity and athleticism, earning All-Conference recognition in 2019 while contributing to three District Championships.
In softball, Hollister was among the most decorated players in program history. A 3-time All-Conference selection and 2-time All-District honoree, she was a consistent offensive force and defensive leader. Hollister’s name is etched in the record books as a member of Corunna’s 100 Career Hit Club, while holding multiple school records.
Her success reached its greatest heights in track & field, where she became one of the most decorated athletes in Corunna history. A 7-time All-State performer and All-Conference honoree, Hollister was twice named Argus Press Female Track Athlete of the Year and earned the 2019 Lansing State Journal Female Track Athlete of the Year award. That same year, she captured three MHSAA Division 2 Individual State Championships — the 300m Hurdles, 200m Dash, and 4x100m Relay — helping lead Corunna to the 2019 MHSAA Division 2 State Team Championship.
Following her incredible high school career, Hollister continued to excel at the next level, earning a softball scholarship to Grand Valley State University. There, she became a four-year letter winner and one of the most successful players in program history, placing herself in the record books in three different areas:
From the courts to the field, and the track, Hannah represents the very best of Corunna Athletics — talent, dedication, and an unrelenting drive to succeed. Her name rightfully takes its place among the elite in the Corunna Athletic Hall of Fame.

A gifted multi-sport athlete and fierce competitor, Gary Zsigo, Class of 1996, distinguished himself as one of Corunna High School’s most accomplished and versatile athletes. Earning seven varsity letters, Zsigo’s athletic career was defined by leadership, consistency, and excellence.
In baseball, Zsigo was a dominant force for three seasons, earning MMB First Team All-Conference and All-District honors each year from 1994–1996, while also being named Team MVP in both 1995 and 1996. In addition, he was a 2-time all state baseball player. During those three years, his earned run average ((ERA) was sub 1.00. In his senior year, Gary was the starting pitcher in the East-West All Star game at Tiger Stadium. A cornerstone of Corunna’s diamond success, he helped lead the Cavaliers to back-to-back MMB Conference Championships in 1994 and 1995, as well as District Championships in 1994, 1995, and 1996. His performance set a lasting legacy — Zsigo still holds 11 school records, a testament to his enduring impact on the program.
Beyond baseball, Zsigo contributed to winning traditions in other sports. On the football field, he played a key role on the 1994 MMB Championship and Regional Finalist team, helping power one of the strongest Corunna squads in program history. He also competed for two years on the basketball team, bringing the same work ethic and athleticism that defined his career.
After a visit from the New York Yankees, who were trying to sign Gary out of high school, Zsigo chose the collegiate level and continued his success at Michigan State University, earning three varsity letters (1998–2000) as a pitcher for the Spartans. In 2000, he led the Spartans’ pitching staff with an ERA of 3.95 over 68.1 innings, allowing just 30 runs throughout the season.
Gary Zsigo’s legacy is one of talent, determination, and excellence — a true representative of Corunna athletics who achieved greatness at every level. His name stands proudly among the elite as a Corunna Athletic Hall of Fame inductee.

A trailblazer in the pool and a cornerstone of Corunna’s swimming legacy, Orville “Butch” Yerian, stands among the most accomplished athletes in school history. Earning four varsity letters in swimming, Yerian’s dedication, discipline, and dominance in the water set a new standard for excellence at Corunna High School.
Over his stellar career, Butch was an 8-time All-State honoree, competing at the highest level across multiple events. His senior year was historic, he became the first swimmer in Corunna High School history to win a State Championship, capturing the 100 Breaststroke title with a remarkable time of :59.30. That same season, he also earned All-State honors for placing 5th in the Individual Medley and 2nd in the Medley Relay, leading his team to a 6th-place finish in the Class B-C-D State Finals.
Butch continues to be the most versatile swimmer in Corunna history. Upon graduation, he was in the all time top 10 of Corunna in every individual event. During his senior year, he was undefeated in the Breaststroke. Even decades later, Yerian’s legacy endures as he continues to hold school records in the Breaststroke and Medley Relay, a testament to his lasting impact on the program.
Butch’s achievements embody the spirit of Corunna Athletics dedication through long hours of practice both in the morning and afternoon and his name rightfully takes its place among the all-time greats in the Corunna Athletic Hall of Fame.

The team was led by Josh McCarthy and Joe Vondoloski, both earning All-State Special Mention honors. In addition, five Cavaliers were named First Team All-MMB, highlighting the team’s depth and overall dominance on the diamond.
The 1993 season remains a cornerstone in Corunna Baseball history — a year defined by unity, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence that continues to inspire future generations of Cavaliers.

Coached by Karla Scott and Ryan Koyne, the team displayed remarkable consistency, teamwork, and competitive spirit. Along the way, they were crowned Regional Champions and completed an undefeated 12-0 season to claim the GAC League Championship. Their dominance extended beyond league play as they also earned the title of “Best of the Best” Greater Flint Tournament Champions, cementing their reputation as one of the top teams in the state.
The Cavaliers were led by a trio of standout bowlers — Morgan Gilbert (1st Team All-Conference), Sierra Howes (2nd Team All-Conference), and Morgan Scott (3rd Team All-Conference). Notably, Sierra Howes set a school record with an incredible 2-game high score of 505.

Today's (10.12.25) Corunna Public Schools' Communicator https://cps-communicator.my.canva.site/october-12-2025

🚨 Michigan still does not have a finalized K-12 budget. Without one, schools like ours risk missing critical funding this fall—resources we count on for teachers, buses, programs, and school safety.
I’ve shared more details in my recent posts. Please take a moment to read them and see why timely, protected school funding is so important for our students.

This fall, our Corunna art students will be teaming up with Supercone for an exciting community mural project! Together, our advanced high school art students and middle school buddies will transform Supercone’s fence and outdoor tables into colorful works of art.
Supercone is generously providing all the paint, and our students will bring their own brushes and creativity. Designs will be developed in class, with high school students sketching outlines and middle schoolers adding their ideas to the final plan. On mural day, teams of students will work side by side to paint their section of the fence or table, creating a vibrant display that showcases both talent and teamwork.
We are especially proud that this project has been designed to include all students, with aides and support staff ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate. This collaboration is not only a wonderful learning experience but also a chance to strengthen the bond between our schools and local businesses.
It’s a true win-win: students get to share their creativity with the community, and Corunna gains another reason to be proud of its Cavaliers!
