Corunna Public Schools is looking for K-12 special education teacher(s)

JOB DESCRIPTION

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the building administrator.

JOB / DISTRICT/COMMUNITY  HIGHLIGHTS

Corunna Public Schools is looking for the best special education teacher(s) available. We have a long history of offering the best special education services around, having been one of the pioneers in the co-teaching model. True to our mission statement of preparing an unprecedented number of students to be college and/or career ready, our district offers a continuum of services to meet the needs of all students. Our district is known for offering quality education in a small-town environment with the amenities of a larger community (our district buildings are five minutes away from Applebee’s, Culver’s, Meijer, Walmart, etc.).

Student loan tuition reimbursement is available to district teachers and our county’s cost of living is incredibly low. We are a class “B” school (around 130 students per grade level) with a reputation for higher standards; as a result, nearly 40% of our students are school of choice.  Our school is the community “hub” and Homecoming is still a big deal in our small town, which is the county seat. Our community is incredibly supportive of our district as well. Despite having nearly 40% of students coming to us via school of choice, our constituents passed a nearly $17 million bond a few years ago to upgrade our buildings. We also were fortunate to have earned a $123,000 Michigan State Police competitive grant to upgrade security features in our buildings.

Special education highlights district-wide include the following:

  • State-model inclusive preschool

  • Range of early preventions and interventions, including Begindergarten and Pre-first

  • District-wide special education facilitators for academic and behavior concerns

  • Resource room and inclusion model both utilized in all buildings to offer a range of environments and services.

  • K-7 Intervention opportunities during whole-grade intervention time so students are not missing core instruction.

  • Encouraged use of technology to provide interventions

  • Targeted transition and lifeskills class elective at the high school.

  • Systematic reading interventions K-7

  • Most students are fully integrated into general education classes 100% of the day.
