POSITION 

Corunna Public Schools is looking for a Automotive Service and/or Mechatronics Career-Technical Education Instructor to start no later than the 2023-2024 school year. We are looking to hire the best candidate around and will determine placement based on the qualifications and expertise of said candidate. An Automotive Service and/or Mechatronics Instructor can be certified in an alternative pathway through the State of Michigan. We are looking for the best candidates, therefore, if you have 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the automotive and/or Mechatronics field within the past ten (10) years or a Teacher Certification with the endorsement of TE, IX, or TX you may be the candidate for Corunna High School. 

JOB DESCRIPTION   

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a High School Automotive lab environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the building administrator.

Our district lives our mission statement of preparing an unprecedented number of students to be college and/or career ready on a daily basis. Our district is known for offering quality education in a small-town environment with the amenities of a larger community (our district buildings are five minutes away from Applebee’s, Culver’s, Meijer, Walmart, etc.).

  • We are a class “B” school (around 130 students per grade level) with a reputation for higher standards. 

  • We have the only inclusive preschool in the county. 

  • Our school is the community “hub” and Homecoming is still a big deal in our small town, which is the county seat.

bond in 2015 to upgrade our buildings and two more bonds in 2021, ($7 million). 

  • We have high-achieving athletic teams, and award-winning extra-curricular programs.

  • We earned a $123,000 Michigan State Police competitive grant to upgrade security features in our buildings. 

  • We were the first district in the state to have an on-site health clinic for employees, (no copay for visits or prescriptions).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the Automotive and/or Mechatronics field within the past ten (10) years or a Teacher Certification with the endorsement of TE, IX, or TX. 

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree or higher preferred - not required. 

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in brakes, steering and suspension, electrical, and preventive maintenance, and repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of all students.

  • Instructs state approved standards for CIP Code 47.0604 / CIP Code 14.4201.

  • Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, material and facility.

  • Organizes and facilitates a minimum of 2 advisory committee meetings each year.

  • Assesses and measures student growth.

  • Preps students for successful assessment in related certifications/credentials.

  • Updates curriculum, articulation and CIP Self-review each year.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, NATEF and district policy.

  • Adheres to CPS policies and  procedures for classroom materials, management and safety.

  • Assumes responsibility for classroom materials, equipment, and facility.

  • Keep teacher certification current through local, state and national professional development opportunities or must be willing to obtain occupational certification or annual authorization.

  • Willing to take Project Lead the Way courses and integrate them into student lessons.

  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence (certification/requirements).

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
