Tim Challender-January Employee of the Month

Tim is a special education teacher at Corunna High School.  He was hired in September of 2011.  Prior to coming to Corunna, Tim was a  teacher at Byron and Ann Arbor Public Schools. “When I received the phone call from Leo Constine years ago to interview at Corunna, I was thrilled for the opportunity to come back home.  It is a pleasure to work alongside the best teachers in the state.  The dedication and work ethic of this staff are two of the biggest reasons my wife and I choose to bring our children to Corunna each day,” said Tim.

Tim said, “Each staff member at Corunna has a deep dedication to the students.  It is this that sets Corunna apart from the rest of the schools!”

“My favorite best day was November 20, 2006 -the day that my children, Peyton and Jack, were born.  I couldn’t ask for two better kids,” said Tim.

Tim says, “I have two things on my bucket list.  I would like to travel more and one day to hold the GO BLUE banner at a home football game in Ann Arbor.”

“One memory I will always carry with me is the entire 2014-2015 school year.  This was the first year that the eighth grade moved to the high school.  The eighth grade teachers (Schem, Murph, Sully, John and Allison) and I created a special bond as we navigated that crazy, hectic year,” said Tim.

Tim said, “I believe people would be surprised to know that when I worked at Ann Arbor, I worked as a sign language interpreter.”

“The person who most positively influenced me is my wife, Lori.  She has had the biggest impact on my life.  For the last 28+ years, Lori has been the rock in my life.  Her selflessness and unwavering support over the years has made me who I am today.  She challenges my thinking and helps me see different perspectives.  For that, I am the luckiest man,” said Tim.

In his spare time, Tim enjoys spending time with family and friends.  They enjoy traveling, going to the cabin up North,  and playing with their Golden Retriever, Reggie, and their cat, Joe.
