October Employee of the Month Melissa Whalen was honored last night during the October Board of Education meeting. Melissa is a fourth grade teacher at Corunna Middle School. She is pictured with her family- husband, Travis, daughter Hunter, son Briar and dad Larry Schack. Melissa is also shown receiving the traveling Employee of the Month plaque from Board Trustee Jan Ray. Melissa is just one more reason why it is Great to be Gold!

Like many districts across the state and country, we have struggled to find new bus drivers when our drivers leave or retire. The demand of drivers is greater than the flow of new qualified applicants. We have had to juggle routes, and look to alternative transportation to some athletic contests. Our transportation department is a dedicated group of caring individuals. They are pitching in when needed, wear many different hats, and do everything possible to meet the demands of transporting our most precious cargo. October 17-21 also marks School Bus Safety Week and we are proud of our department’s excellence. I know our district offers competitive wages, the opportunity to work year round, and to be enrolled as a member of our professional staffed health clinic that includes no copay for visits or prescriptions.
